Arsenic In St. George Water
Arsenic levels in St. George drinking water were recently above what is accepted. The city observes our drinking water for impurities and detected the arsenic rise after the December flooding. A pipeline had been damaged and this led to the arsenic problem. There is not an immediate risk. However, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), some people who drink water containing arsenic in excess of the maximum containment level for many years could experience skin damage or problems with their circulatory system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer. The arsenic levels in St. George have returned to a safe level.
