Southern Utah Power Outages

As we hear the news regarding the major power outages back east that were caused from superstorm Sandy, we residents in southern Utah are still blessed with decent weather, mild temperatures and power. Power outages can be devastating, especially ones that last for more than just a few hours. Southern Utah frequently sees minor power outages during the peak of the summer season, when people flock indoors with the air conditioner blasting, seeking relief from the high temperatures. Occasionally a storm or wildfire may leave us in the dark for part of a day, but southern Utah has been lucky to not have to endure such power outages as the eastern United States are seeing now. Although we’ve been spared so far, preparing for a potential power outage is encouraged. State officials encourage residents to keep a seventy-two hour supply of food, water and clothing and know how to shut off the electricity, gas and water main to avoid damage.
