St. George Frozen Pipes
As temperatures in St. George dipped into the teens last week, many residents woke to no running water due to frozen pipes. While surrounding areas such as Cedar City and Panguitch may be used to extreme low temperatures, we in St. George are not accustomed to it. There are ways to prevent frozen pipes. Pipes more likely to freeze are those that are located in the exterior of the home such as hose faucets and pipes that are in crawl spaces, unfinished basements and attics without insulation. Ways to prevent these pipes from freezing are to disconnect all hoses from faucets and insulate pipes with faucet covers or pipe sleeves. Pipes on the interior of your home can also freeze. Ways to prevent those pipes from freezing are to never reduce the temperature in your home too low, open cupboards to allow warm air to reach under sinks and let the faucet drip. A small amount of water running through pipes continually will make pipes stay thawed. If your home in St. George has had problems with frozen pipes, call HiCalber for repairs.
