For good quality residential carpet the average range is about $2.00 – $4.00 per square foot.
If you are like most people, however, installing your own carpet isn’t something that you want to do. Installed carpet usually runs between $2.77 – $3.88 per square foot, with an addition $0.33 per square foot to remove old carpeting.
Life expectancy for cheap carpet is usually 1 – 5 years. Medium quality carpet will last from 5 – 15 years. And good quality carpet can last from 15 – 25 years.
So, for a 200 square foot room (typical of a small bedroom 10′ X 12′) the typical price for new carpeting installed (with old carpet removal included) is $620 – $842.
