Tornado in Southern Utah
On Wednesday, August 24th what appeared to be a larger than normal dust devil turned out to be a tornado in southern Utah. The Tornado touched down in Apple Valley which is twelve miles east of Hurricane off of highway 59. Being protected in our valley from the surrounding mountains, southern Utah is not personally familiar with the devastation that can occur from a larger tornado. We hear news of storms that rip through central America and while our hearts go out to those affected, we may not grasp the reality of a tornado until it hits home. Although St. George and surrounding areas have little chance of storms capable of bringing in a twister, we need to prepare our families and homes for possible natural disasters.
